Project Overview

The site of the Falmouth elementary school project was nestled between the existing high school and the middle school. This project incorporated numerous phases of construction as the existing schools were in session. Construction activities included modular block retaining walls, geofoam light weight fill, a synthetic turf field with polyresin 8 lane track surface, miscellaneous track and field features, relocating sports fields, porous pavement, soil filter ponds, underground storm water detention ponds, vegetated roof gardens, playground areas, new school building, roadway and entrance improvements, granite and concrete curb, and utilities. Numerous crews worked throughout the winter months installing the utilities, retaining walls, and building foundations. After the retaining walls were complete with the geofoam light weight fill in place, crews constructed the running track and synthetic turf field. Crews constructed several new parking areas, one new porous pavement parking lot which is the first in the state and several roadways. Sidewalks and filter ponds were then constructed, followed by landscape and hardscape improvements. Once the building was complete a 13,000 SF vegetated roof garden was constructed to act as an outdoor classroom. The elementary school construction was a large site project that was completed with minimal disturbance to the classrooms in the neighboring two schools.
