Runway Expansion and Earthwork Preload 18-36

In mid August of 2010, Shaw Brothers Construction was awarded the first phase of the Runway 18-36 Extension project at the Portland International Jetport in Portland, Maine. The first phase of the Runway Extension project was to install an earth and rock preload at the south end of the existing runway. This preload was required to consolidate poor existing soils in preparation for the runway extension.  Read More »

International Marine Terminal – Portland

tagsShaw Brothers was awarded the contract for the International Marine Terminal Improvements Project located in the heart of Portland’s busy waterfront on Commercial Street.  The first phase of the project was an upgrade to the existing docking facilities to accommodate cargo ship arrivals into the terminal.  Read More »

At approximately 11:30 AM on Thursday, September 2, 2010 a 200 foot stretch of the heavily traveled Riverside Drive (Route 136) collapsed, sending large volumes of clay, sand and asphalt into the adjacent Androscoggin River. The roadway was immediately closed to all traffic, disrupting the main connector between Auburn and Freeport. The Maine Department of Transportation turned to Shaw Brothers Construction to rebuild the roadway within an aggressive 2 month schedule.  Read More »

MDOT Interstate Improvements – South Portland

In June of 2009 Shaw Brothers Construction was the low bidder on the $5.2 million Interstate Improvement project located in South Portland, Maine. The project entailed widening the heavily traveled Interstate 295 between exits 3 and 4 of both the northbound and southbound roadway. The work of this project included all aspects of interstate highway construction including excavation and grading, drainage, gravel base, hot mix asphalt, cable barrier guardrail, signage, curb and traffic control.  Read More »
