Project Overview

award_icon_profile.alphaShaw Brothers was awarded the contract for the International Marine Terminal Improvements Project located in the heart of Portland’s busy waterfront on Commercial Street.  The first phase of the project was an upgrade to the existing docking facilities to accommodate cargo ship arrivals into the terminal. The second phase was an expansive 2,220 cubic yard structural concrete loading slab that was constructed along with a 500 cubic yard structural slab barrier wall separating the loading area from Commercial Street.  The third phase was a 14 acre chassis-storage facility that was constructed primarily of separation geotextiles, gravel and crushed stone to facilitate storm water drainage for the entire chassis yard.  The fourth phase was the reconstruction of West Commercial Street in order to accommodate the increased traffic flow at the Marine Terminal and at the Beach Street intersection.  Throughout construction of this project Shaw Brothers’ team was met by very unique challenges at almost every stage. Combining the team’s expertise along with the best possible resources and the “can do” attitudes of the entire group was vital in ensuring that even as the obstacles were discovered, they were addressed and resolved in the most safe, efficient and successful way possible.
